【Cabin Crew's Pick】FingerART | Japan Airlines Collaboration - Kowloon City Paper Art Model (JAL HK - Origina Product)

Hello everyone! I am a JAL cabin crew member from Hong Kong base.

Today, I'm thrilled to introduce the latest FingerART collaboration with Japan Airlines: the original papercraft model!

For the past 70 years, Japan Airlines' Hong Kong routes have been filled with a rich and colorful history. One of the most unforgettable sights is undoubtedly the classic view of a JAL aircraft flying over the densely populated Kowloon City during takeoffs and landings at Kai Tak Airport. The following photo captures that iconic moment from the 1970s, showcasing a JAL DC-8 gracefully flying over Kowloon City, preparing to land at Kai Tak Airport.

This model perfectly captures the nostalgic scene of a Japan Airlines DC-8 airliner crossing Kowloon City as it approaches Kai Tak Airport. It's a wonderful way to reminisce about the unique charm of the old airport and the historical connection between JAL and Hong Kong.

This model requires no glue and thoughtfully includes a small pair of pliers, allowing you to complete it in just 15 minutes! Whether you're flying on JAL or looking for a special souvenir, we are committed to providing attentive service and embodying the spirit of omotenashi (Japanese hospitality).

Whether you're a loyal collector of JAL products or a collector with a special fondness for nostalgic Hong Kong, this product is definitely worth cherishing. It's not only a beautiful JAL souvenir, but also carries the unique charm of Hong Kong in the past. Whether as a gift for relatives and friends, or for personal collection, it is particularly meaningful.

Kai Tak Airport Background Information:
Kai Tak Airport is the most legendary airport in Hong Kong's aviation history. Operating from 1925 to its closure in 1998, it witnessed Hong Kong's transformation from a colony to an international hub. The airport was located in Kowloon City, with its runway directly facing Victoria Harbour and towering buildings. Landings required flying through the city, as pilots relied on visual navigation, using the checkerboard marker at the start of the runway. Landings were particularly challenging in windy conditions.

The DC-8 Aircraft Used by JAL at the Time:
Japan Airlines (JAL)'s DC-8 aircraft first flew in 1958 and primarily served medium- and long-haul routes to Asia, North America, and more. It offered higher speeds and a more comfortable ride, representing a key model for JAL's expansion of international routes. Although most of these aircraft have been retired, they hold a significant place in aviation history and have made great contributions to JAL's past internationalization strategy.
